Food Safety and Handling 101

Farmers interested in selling through the Piedmont Fresh online platform should take this workshop to learn about standard practice food safety and handling procedures.

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to assess food safety risks on the farm and discuss practical ways to manage those risks. We will tour Seven Sisters Farm and look at possible risks from water, prior and adjacent land use, soil amendments, animals, worker health and hygiene, and harvest and post-harvest activities. Participants should come prepared to walk the farm and engage in a conversation about managing food safety on the farm with an emphasis on harvest and post-harvest handling.

The workshop will be led by Carolina Farm Stewardship Associations’ Local Food Produce Safety Coordinators.
