Adding Livestock Guardian Dogs to Your Farm or Homestead

  • 2569 Huffine Mill Road McLeansville, NC 27301 (map)

Are you considering adding Livestock Guardian Dogs to your farm or homestead? Then this is a don't miss event - it's a hands on, on farm workshop that will give you what you need to successfully add (or not add at all) livestock guardian dogs to your flocks & herds.

This event is a collaborative effort that brings many decades of experience to one location, covering various types of farms/ranches/homesteads and numerous breeds of dogs. Participants will be able to meet 4 very different breeds of LGD as well as general utility farm dogs.

This workshop is NOT about convincing the farmer or homesteader to add LGD. This workshop is to provide solid, accurate information and education to better equip those considering this major step in flock/herd security. Education and information helps to prevent the swelling numbers of LGDs currently overwhelming shelters and rescues. Presenters will also address various forms of predator deterrence and successful coexistence.

Participating Presenters:

  • Learning About LGDs

  • NC Wildlife Commission

  • Carolina Pyrenees Rescue

  • Wildlife with Aspen

  • Red Dog Farm Rescue

Presentation schedule will be published a few days prior to the event as weather may affect location/time of specific presentations. However, plan for the full 9-4pm day (this is not a floating event).

Plan to dress for indoor and OUTDOOR activities. Check the weather forecast for zip code 27301 (McLeansville, NC). It could be mid 60s and sunny or 45F and sunny...rain date will be announced as necessary. Footwear that can handle mud and varied terrain is strongly encouraged. Don't show up in Hey Dudes or flip flops.

Well behaved children are welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be a few child specific offerings to include stories with a few not-so-well-behaved goats, boring sheep who don’t want to be touched, and possibly Hazel the Benevolent (one of our Pyrenees LGD).

NO DOGS ALLOWED. If you have a legitimate service animal and wish to attend CONTACT US IN ADVANCE. Otherwise…NO DOGS ALLOWED. This is for everyone’s safety, especially your dog.
