Prescription Food Box Program

Piedmont Fresh is continuing its partnership with Davidson Medical Ministries to expand access to fresh, locally grown food through the Prescription Food Box Program. This initiative is designed to bring nutritious produce directly to community members who face barriers to getting to farmers markets or other food access points.

Through this program, healthcare providers can “prescribe” fresh food boxes filled with seasonal produce sourced from local farmers. Each box is thoughtfully curated to support healthier eating habits while also keeping local agriculture strong and thriving. It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact: food as part of healthcare, not separate from it.

Piedmont Fresh works alongside medical and community partners to make sure these boxes reach the people who need them most. Beyond providing nourishment, the program helps bridge the gap between healthcare and food access, supporting improved health outcomes and strengthening the local food system at the same time.

At its core, the Prescription Food Box Program is about connection—between farmers, healthcare providers, and community members—making sure that fresh, local food is not a privilege, but a consistent and accessible part of everyday wellness.
