Supporting Food Assistance in Our Community
Supporting Food Assistance in Our Community
Across Davidson County and beyond, too many families are facing the uncertainty of not knowing where their next meal will come from. Local food pantries and meal programs are experiencing increased demand, and community support is more important now than ever.
Food insecurity doesn’t have a single face or story. It affects working families, seniors on fixed incomes, neighbors between jobs, and children who rely on school meal programs. When we come together — through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness — we strengthen the safety net that keeps our community fed.
A New Tool for Finding Food Assistance
United Way Worldwide has partnered with the 211 network to launch a new nationwide food assistance search tool at 211.org. This resource allows anyone in need to enter their zip code and instantly find food support in their community — from food pantries to meal programs and more.
No applications. No referrals. Just a zip code.
This simple, self-service tool is a significant milestone for both United Way and the 211 network, giving people faster and easier access to local food resources when they need it most.
Local Ways to Support Food Security in Davidson County
Below are two local organizations actively feeding our neighbors — and both need continued community support.
Pastor’s Pantry of Davidson County
Focused on serving senior adults facing food insecurity, Pastor’s Pantry accepts food donations to keep their shelves stocked year-round. Even small contributions add up to big impact for elderly residents who often have to choose between food, medicine, and utilities.
Salvation Army of Davidson County
The recent suspension of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits in North Carolina will affect an estimated 600,000 households — and demand on local food pantries is expected to rise.
The Salvation Army is committed to keeping its food pantry open as long as resources allow. They are currently in need of:
Canned meats (tuna, chicken, Spam)
Frozen meats
Eggs
Peanut butter & jelly
Canned fruits & vegetables
Boxed meals (pasta, rice, mac & cheese)
Breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, granola bars)
Shelf-stable milk or milk alternatives
Soup & stew
Hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, deodorant)
Every donation — whether it’s one can or one carload — goes directly to a neighbor in need.
Piedmont Fresh Food Donation Programs
Fresh Food Drive
A donation to the Piedmont Fresh Fresh Food Drive allows us to purchase produce from local producers and distribute boxes weekly to families in need, including those supported by Greater Vision Outreach Ministry in Thomasville, NC.
Double Up Food Bucks Donation
Every contribution to Piedmont Fresh goes into a fund that helps purchase fresh goods from local producers and deliver them to families and individuals in need.
