There’s always something happening with Davidson County Local Food Network—from expanding access to fresh local food, to supporting farmers, to building stronger connections across our community. Here’s a look at what we’ve been working on and what’s ahead.

Prescription Food Box Program

Piedmont Fresh is continuing its partnership with Davidson Medical Ministries to provide Prescription Food Boxes for community members who are unable to attend farmers markets in person.

This program delivers fresh, locally grown produce directly to individuals who need it most, helping improve access to nutritious food while also supporting local farmers. It’s a simple but powerful way to strengthen both community health and the local food system at the same time.

The 6th Annual Davidson County Farm Tour invites you to explore a curated selection of farms across the region during the peak of fall. It’s a chance to experience the beauty of the season, meet local farmers, and see firsthand where your food comes from.

Each stop offers a unique glimpse into the heart of our local food system during one of the most vibrant times of the year.

Fresh & Local: Spring Flavors from Greater Davidson County

Spring is officially here, and our local farms are waking up with colorful life and vibrant crops. When you shop locally, you’re tasting food at its peak — picked at the right time, full of flavor, and rich in nutrients. Seasonal eating isn’t just delicious, it’s a way of strengthening our local food system and supporting the people who grow it.

Right now around Davidson County and the Piedmont region you’ll find leafy greens like lettuce, arugula, kale, and Swiss chard; bright green onions and scallions; tender snap peas; and the first sweet strawberries of the year. These crops thrive in the spring climate and show up in markets and farm stands across our community.

Eating with the seasons also connects us more deeply to the work happening on farms right here in Greater Davidson County — the same farms at the heart of the Davidson County Local Food Network’s mission. Our updated vision is rooted in this connection: We envision a vibrant local food system in Greater Davidson County where farmers thrive and the community is nourished by abundant, reliable access to locally grown and locally made food. This idea supports the belief that Healthy Farmers = Healthy People = Healthy Community.

Our mission carries that forward in action: We strengthen access to affordable, locally grown food by connecting farmers and community partners to build a healthy regional food system. Whether it’s through supporting farmers markets, sharing seasonal food guides, hosting farm tours, or expanding online access to local products, DCLFN works to make fresh, nutritious food easier to find and enjoy.

Spring’s bounty reflects that mission in every crisp leaf and juicy berry. When you pick up seasonal produce at a market, order from Piedmont Fresh, or dig into your own backyard garden, you’re participating in a food system that values community, sustainability, and local economy.
