In 2024, North Carolina saw a sharp return of fall armyworm infestations, causing significant damage to both tall fescue and bermudagrass hayfields and pastures. After several quiet years, this outbreak serves as a critical reminder of the importance of ongoing monitoringβeven in low-risk seasons. Damage was especially notable in hayfields, and both cool-season (fescue) and warm-season (bermudagrass) forages were affected.
