Great Southeast Pollinator Census
Dates: Friday, August 21 – Saturday, August 22, 2026
The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is an exciting citizen science project launched by the University of Georgia that brings communities together to help monitor and celebrate pollinator populations. This year’s census will take place on August 21 and 22, with participation from six southeastern states: Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.
This will be North Carolina’s third year participating in the census, and Davidson County has seen an increase in both the number of participants and pollinator observations over the past three years. The Davidson County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers invite you to join this important effort and help count pollinators in your community.
This year, our goal is to reach 200 participants and 400 pollinator counts!
How to Participate
During the census, choose a location where you can observe one flowering plant. Spend time watching the plant and record the types of pollinators you see, along with each time a pollinator lands on the selected plant.
Native pollinator plants often attract a greater variety of pollinators, but you may be surprised by the activity you find in your own garden, yard, or community space. Every observation helps researchers better understand pollinator populations and supports conservation efforts across the Southeast.
Join your neighbors, become a citizen scientist, and help make Davidson County’s pollinator count a success!
