At Rierson Farms NC LLC, a delightful menagerie of animals awaits you, including goats, chickens, donkeys named Ollie and Finn, and friendly feline companions named Mila and Mason. Zach and Monica Rierson, the proud owners and operators of Rierson Farms NC, officially registered their farm in March 2021, but their passion for growing goes back much further.
When Zach was in kindergarten, he planted a corn kernel and witnessed the miracle of a tiny seed growing into a stalk and bearing corn. From then on, Zach was hooked.
His interest flourished, and he soon discovered his knack for it. Starting with a small garden and a few chickens, he initially produced enough to share with neighbors and friends.
Monica, originally from Panama, never envisioned herself milking goats and making handcrafted goat milk soap. She works as a medical laboratory scientist by day and dedicates her nights and weekends to farming. Together, Zach and Monica represent the next generation of farmers as first-generation farmers themselves.
They expanded their farm to include animals, starting with their first goats, Neptune and Forsetti. Their farm quickly grew to accommodate a diverse range of animals, including 23 goats, chickens, guineas, pigs, donkeys, and a cow, making Old MacDonald envious! The Riersons take great pride in offering fresh produce and goat milk-based products to the community at affordable prices. Last year, Rierson Farms became a Certified Naturally Grown farm.
In February of this year, the Riersons fulfilled a long-held dream of building a high tunnel, allowing them to start crops earlier and provide an early supply of fresh produce to the community. They also actively support fellow farmers as proud members of both the Lexington and Thomasville Farmers Markets. Through these markets, they have the opportunity to educate the community about their farming practices, introduce unique produce, and share cooking tips, creating a special connection with consumers that traditional stores cannot replicate. During this year’s farm tour, they will already be offering tomatoes, peppers, squash and various greens for your eating pleasure. As well, they offer vegetable transplants, annuals and perennial plants for your landscape.
For those of you who visited last year, you will be amazed at how much their farm has grown.
