Sunflower Hill Farm is a 70-acre woman-owned farm located in Davidson County, North Carolina. The farm is owned and operated by Amanda Beveridge, whose passion for growing things was instilled in her by her parents. Growing up, her family always maintained a large garden, and her father had a knack for planting orchards and tending to bees wherever they lived. Amanda's mother particularly enjoyed cultivating herbs and flowers.
The 70-acre plot of land where Sunflower Hill Farm is situated was purchased by Amanda's parents over 30 years ago. One summer, when Amanda returned home for a visit, she was greeted by a breathtaking field of sunflowers that her father had planted. This memory left a lasting impression on her, and she decided to name her farm "Sunflower Hill Farm" in honor of that experience.
In 2018, Amanda and her husband Peer, a former Navy fighter pilot, were able to fulfill their dream of moving to North Carolina and starting a farm. Peer currently works full-time as a construction manager, while Amanda, a former textile designer and middle school teacher, dedicates her time and energy to the farm.
As a new farmer, Amanda is gradually developing and expanding her farm. She aspires to inspire others to consider growing vegetables and raising animals, just as she was inspired by her parents. Presently, Sunflower Hill Farm offers a variety of products, including lamb and honey, pastured-raised poultry, garlic, and bedding plants. Additionally, Amanda plans to introduce specialty produce to her offerings this year.
Through Sunflower Hill Farm, Amanda hopes to not only cultivate high-quality, sustainable produce but also foster a sense of connection between people and the land. By sharing her farming journey and the products she cultivates, she aims to encourage others to explore their own passion for farming and embrace a more self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle.
