Seven Sisters Farm

Seven Sisters Farm is a family-operated, four-season farm located in North Carolina, dedicated to producing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables through sustainable, ecologically responsible farming practices. Built on a foundation of family heritage, resilience, and a deep respect for the land, the farm is committed to improving soil health while providing fresh, affordable food to the local community.

The farm’s story began with Janice, one of seven sisters raised on a multi-generational tobacco and produce farm with roots in Southern Maryland dating back to the 1600s, and Michael, a Denton native with a strong connection to the land. After meeting during a natural resources field experience at NC State University, the two were married in 2011 and eventually returned to North Carolina, where they launched The Fine Farming Company in 2014. This operation later evolved into what is now known as Seven Sisters Farm.

Seven Sisters Farm is built on the philosophy that healthy soil creates healthy food. The farm prioritizes regenerative practices such as cover cropping, crop rotation, integrated pest management, mulching, and season extension techniques. It also emphasizes the use of regionally adapted seed varieties and permanent no-till beds to reduce soil disturbance and improve long-term land productivity.

A central focus of the farm is soil regeneration and ecological balance. By prioritizing soil mineralization, biological health, and reduced chemical inputs, Seven Sisters Farm aims to create a resilient agricultural system that supports both productivity and environmental sustainability. Their approach reflects a commitment to “leading rather than pushing,” allowing natural systems to guide production while minimizing stress on crops and livestock.

The farm operates year-round, producing a diverse range of vegetables and maintaining a strong focus on educating themselves and their community about sustainable agriculture. In addition to production farming, Seven Sisters Farm also shares its knowledge through stewardship-based consulting services, helping others develop productive and sustainable land-use systems.

At its core, Seven Sisters Farm is driven by a mission to feed families, strengthen local food systems, and support long-term agricultural stability. Through hard work, continuous learning, and a commitment to ecological responsibility, the farm continues to evolve while staying grounded in its original vision of a simpler, more intentional farm-centered life.
