Volunteer and help our community:
farmers market
Our farmers markets are always looking for volunteers. Responsibilities include helping our chefs during their cooking demos, counting attendance traffic, manning our market booth and more. If you want to learn about market operations, building relationships with our farmers, and event preparation.
food hub
We run a food hub called Piedmont Fresh where residents of the Triad can purchase food from various local farms. As part of our food hub, we run a special food box program where we provide fresh produce to food pantries. We often need volunteers to help us build these food boxes. More hands the faster we can get the boxes put together, the sooner we can deliver these boxes of fresh, local goodness.
farm Tour
The Davidson County Local Food Network Farm Tour is a yearly event that connects the community with local farms, fresh food, and the people who grow it. Volunteers play a vital role in making the tour successful by welcoming guests, guiding visitors, assisting with farm check-ins, and sharing information about local food and farms. Volunteering is a great way to support local agriculture, meet new people, and experience the Farm Tour from the inside. Whether you’re passionate about food, farming, or community, your time and energy make a difference in keeping this annual tradition thriving.
community garden
Community gardens can be found in Davidson County. Both Thomasville and Lexington Parks & Recreation have initiated small community gardens targeted towards youth. Other community gardens exist and are managed by local churches. DCLFN would like to encourage and facilitate more community gardens across the county to be used for not only food access, but for skills training, education and awareness about local food.
We have a Community Garden Workgroup meeting approximately once a month to develop better strategies and models for more community gardens and skills-based instructional content to encourage residents to grow vegetables in their yards, or in containers. If you are interested in being involved with this workgroup, please email us and we will include you in our meetings.
