Protecting Farmland, Supporting Community
Nestled among the rolling hills and green pastures of southern Davidson and Randolph Counties, Roberts Farm is a family-operated farm with a vision that reaches far beyond raising cattle.
Owned and operated by Tammy and Lloyd Roberts, the farm spans approximately 300 acres and is home to pasture-raised beef and a growing agricultural operation. But for Lloyd, farming is about more than what happens in the pasture. It is about protecting farmland, supporting other farmers, and making sure agriculture continues to have a place in the community.
Lloyd is a first-generation cattle farmer who began his agricultural career in Denton, North Carolina. His path into farming grew from years of experience working with cattle and learning from farmers throughout the area. He and Tammy eventually purchased 50 acres and began building their farm, learning along the way just how much work, knowledge, and dedication it takes to maintain a working farm.
As they grew their operation, they also became increasingly aware of the farmland disappearing around them.
That concern led the Roberts family to take action.
Preserving the Land for the Future
Rather than allowing their farmland to eventually become another development, the Roberts family chose to protect it through an agricultural easement with Three Rivers Land Trust.
In 2021, Roberts Farm preserved 200 acres of farmland, followed by an additional 100 acres in 2023.
For Lloyd, protecting the land is about making sure it remains available for agriculture, even if the farm does not stay in the family forever. His goal is simple: the land should continue to be farmed.
That commitment to farmland preservation reflects the same values that guide the rest of the farm. Roberts Farm is not only focused on their own operation. They believe in creating opportunities for agriculture to continue throughout the community.
A Farmer Who Supports Farmers
Lloyd and Tammy have built strong relationships with other farmers and agricultural organizations throughout the region. Through those relationships, they have learned from other producers and have also looked for ways to help support the agricultural community around them.
Their experience has shown them that farming is something that is strengthened when farmers learn from and support one another.
That community mindset is also reflected in the way Roberts Farm approaches their own business. As their operation has grown, they have continued looking for ways to contribute to the local food system while maintaining the land and agricultural traditions they value.
Caring for Their Cattle
Roberts Farm specializes in wholesome, pasture-raised beef, primarily from commercial Angus cattle. Their cattle are born and raised on the farm, allowing the Roberts family to closely monitor their health and care throughout every stage of growth.
Animal welfare is an important part of their operation. They maintain a comprehensive herd health program and work to provide a healthy, low-stress environment for their cattle.
Roberts Farm also follows Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) standards, using recommended practices for animal handling, feeding, and overall herd management.
Growing a Family Farm
Tammy and Lloyd have called Denton, North Carolina home since 2012. Together, they have built Roberts Farm through hard work, persistence, and a shared commitment to agriculture.
They have continued expanding their farm while looking for ways to protect the land and strengthen their connection to the surrounding agricultural community. Their operation has also grown to include a retail store, giving customers another opportunity to connect with what they produce.
For Lloyd, farming is about more than simply owning land. It is about being a steward of that land and making sure it remains part of the agricultural landscape.
He has seen farmland disappear around him, and he wants to help ensure that the beautiful land they have worked so hard to preserve remains in production for years to come.
