Distribution Locations Needed - Summer Feeding Strategy (Children)

As a supplement to existing food distribution strategies to feed children in Davidson County, DCFN is looking to replicate drive-thru models currently being implemented in Forsyth and Guilford County.

Through the direction of Emily Angell, Elevation Church’s outreach coordinator, we are investigating the potential of implementing a similar model in Davidson County. In order to be able to set-up this model, we require enough locations and meal demand to be eligible to receive meals from Second Harvest’s Providence Kitchen program.

Currently we have secured the following locations:

  • Lexington High School - Permission was granted by superintendent, Dr. Wells - Cory Holt is the coordinator for this location with volunteer support from Elevation Church.

  • Macedonia UMC - (Southmont)

  • First Baptist Church (Thomasville)

Other potential locations identified ( not confirmed or approved):

  • Boys and Girls Club (Hasty School area)

We are looking for additional drive-thru locations. We required enough demand to be able to receive meals from Second Harvest.

HOW THE SUMMER DRIVE-THRU MEAL DISTRIBUTION WORKS

MEALS:

Who makes/provides the meals?
Providence Kitchen (Second Harvest) - All meals will be provided by Second Harvest. Locations do not need to cook or prepare meals. Sites are only for distribution.

Who are these meals for? Children under 18.

How often and how many meals are distributed?
Organizations can choose either to distribute Monday, Wednesday and Friday (each child receives 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts); or Tuesday and Thursday - which means that on Thursday, each child receives 3 dinners and 3 breakfasts instead of 2.

FOOD WASTE

What happens if there are meals not picked up?
Volunteers are allowed to take these meals and drop them off at homes where they know people need these meals. We endeavor not to waste any of these meals. They are sometimes distributed to apartments where children reside.

START-UP KIT

Elevation Church has provided these documents that help you set up your drive-through meal site. Please use these documents to guide you through the process.

WE WANT TO BE A LOCATION!
LOCATION ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible as a location, your organization/location needs to have the following infrastructure:

  • Parking Lot - where safe drive-thru system can be implemented

  • (Preferred)- Tents x 2

  • 3 x 8 ft tables

  • A place to store meals (temporarily)

  • Coordinator - to coordinate with the County Coordinator and order # of meals needed and oversee set up of drive-thru distribution and volunteers

  • Minimum 5 volunteers to distribute (to put together tent, tables, meal distribution)

Elevation Church has offered to provide signage and a consultant to help develop the parking lot logistics.

HOW DO WE GET STARTED?

If your church or organization is interested in being a drive-thru location, please email us. - and we will work with you to set you up.
